Understanding basics about nicotine pouches

Nicotine pouches originate in Sweden, and are inspired by Sweden snus, a spitless, moist tobacco pouch. They are similar to snus in appearance and usage, which often cause confusion.

In fact, nicotine pouches and snus are different in essence. While snus contains real tobacco leaf, nicotine pouches are tobacco-free. Now, let’s take a look at some facts about nicotine pouches.

What is inside nicotine pouches?

Nicotine pouches are small, white and porous pouches containing nicotine, flavorings, water, sweeteners, and natural plant-based fibers in a powder form. They come in a variety of strengths and flavors to cater to different needs and tastes.

The nicotine sources are also different across manufacturers. While some use nicotine extracted from tobacco plants, others are human made in a laboratory setting. These innovative products are usually packaged in a tin that is reminiscent of a mint container, with 15-20 pouches per tin, depending on different brands.

How to use nicotine pouches?

Like oral smokeless tobacco products, nicotine pouches are designed to be consumed orally. These modern nicotine replacement products are much easier to use compared with cigarettes.

Simply pop off the lip, take out one pouch, and tuck it in between the upper lip and gum with your forefinger and thumb.

One key point to note is to place it in an area where it can rest comfortably without causing any irritation. That’s it. The nicotine slowly dissolves via your saliva, and you will feel a tingling sensation, which means the nicotine is released.

The nicotine is then absorbed through your mucous membranes directly into your bloodstream, satisfying your craving. There is no need for chewing or spitting.

What is the experience of nicotine pouches like?

Nicotine pouches offer an experience that is different from cigarette smoking due to their distinction in delivery method. Unlike cigarettes that deliver nicotine instantly, nicotine pouches release nicotine in a constant way.

Due to this, you will not experience rapid and intense nicotine hits as with cigarette smoking via inhalation. Instead, the nicotine pouches offer a gradual, balanced and long-lasting nicotine “buzz”.

How long should you keep it in your mouth?

The duration of nicotine pouches from different brands varies. Typically, each session lasts for 30-60 minutes. It is important not to move the pouch during this time to ensure a steady and sustained release of nicotine.

How to dispose of used nicotine pouches?

The nicotine pouches should be disposed of eco-friendly. When it is finished, remove the used pouch with a finger, and dispose of it into a nearest bin or put it in the handy waste compartment, usually in the top of the tin, if an instant bin is not available. Don’t swallow it. Never leave them lying around or drop them on the ground.
